Comitàn and Cascadas el Chiflón

View Mexico (Mainland III) on divatmotoros's travel map.

We had some health related challenges finishing Guatemala (I had some fever, Zsuzsa had stomach pain) so we arrived to Comitàn as a beaten army. Very tired and very sleepy we still had to stop at a Walmart to get groceries and I also purchased lug nuts for the car to replace the missing one we lost somewhere in Guatemala.

After a good night sleep we went for a short (but steep) hike to see the waterfalls nearby. The water is beautifully azure-blue and quite cold but we also took swimsuits to cool off after the sweatening climb.

One of the many falls was 258 meters high and we started discussing how high the Niagara Falls was. We absolutely misjudged it as that one is "only" around 50 meters but obviously much wider than the one we just seen.
