Corazón de Agua

View Guatemala on divatmotoros's travel map.

There are lots of hiking opportunities around Antigua Guatemala but those are mostly for more experienced and fit hikers. The elevation is between 2000 and 3800 meters and the ascent is usually quite steep.

My favourite example is the one-night spectacular volcano tour which must be fantastic (we obviously skipped it due to the kids, I think our current (un)fitness level would have made it though too). See the elevation profile of this trip for exampe! Not for small children or for us...

We still found nice hikes, the first led us 3 kms uphill to Corazón de Agua. The beginning of the trail passed a szeep but nicely planted garden and then the ascent became steeper ans steeper. It was almost like a staircase, walking on the roots of the trees.

At the summit there was a children's playground and a simple campground too with stunning view to the lake (Lago de Amatitlan) and the towns and neighbouring mountains.
