Tulum, Quintana Roo

View Mexico (Mainland II) on divatmotoros's travel map.

Tulum did not disappoint (on the beach). The town itself is quite a disappointment though.

It was quite hard to find our AirBnB, although the town is fairly small and simple. Google Maps did not show the right place and after finding the complex the only number missing was the number of our flat.

After checking all other stories at the two staircases we returned to the flat with no numbers and tried the codes on the small keybox (which did not work).

Then I started to play around with numbers and realised that I can set the codes received above the correct line too. (So the code appeared above its mandated place while at the required place a completely other number appeared). And voila, the door opened!

The town is reconstructed and there is a lot of dust and rebuilding going on to create a new entrance and welcome area to the Mayan ruins. Half of the buildings anyway look like still under construction, the other half of them look like badly in the need of reconstrucion.

We decided to enjoy the beach and a boat ride to see the ruins from the water. From the parking lot it took a out 35 minutes to walk to the beach but it was worth it. We also swam with giant turtles, stingrays and other fish above the corall (which is the second largest corall system of the world). Amazing, mesmerizing, no words to describe the natural wonders.

The next day we went to a public beach where we enjoyed the sun and the large waves. The kids wanted me to stay with them all day in the water but it was fun to jump up and down with the waves.

We also met a Hungarian girl who moved to Tulum two weeks ago! Then a group of soldiers searched the beach, looking for someone without luck.
